That hearing loss can impact your brain has been proven in numerous studies. (Some of our previous blogs clearly demonstrate that.) Luckily, it’s also been proven that you can regain some of that cognitive ability through hearing aids.

We’re not stating that you will become more intelligent just by wearing hearing aids. But there’s some compelling research that suggests cognitive ability can be enhanced by wearing hearing aids lowering your risk for anxiety, depression, and dementia.

Your Brain is Responsible For a Substantial Amount of Your Hearing

It’s essential to recognize how large a part your brain plays in hearing if you are going to understand the connection between cognition and your ears. That’s where the vibrations of the world are transformed into the sounds of your surroundings. The parts of your brain that translate sound will suddenly have less to do when hearing starts to wane.

Not only can it be difficult to hear sounds, but it can also be challenging to ascertain which direction sounds are originating from. A fall or other accident can be the outcome.
  • Inner ear health: Loss of hearing by itself will not result in inner ear injury. Notwithstanding, sometimes hearing loss and inner ear issues have a mutual cause. So treating the one can help you treat the other, and in many situations, a hearing aid is a component of that treatment regimen.

To be honest, you’re more likely to avoid a fall when you’re wearing hearing aids. A hearing aid helps you stay more alert, more aware, and more connected, strengthening cognitive attributes and physical health in the process.
